Day 7: Welcome to Idaho

Another cold night and not too much sleep. Earliest start so far – ’cause I just woke up early. Jeremy and I started off at 6:30 and got to Clarkston, WA by 7:15. We crossed over into Lewiston, Idaho – State #3!

Making very slow progress today. Not much elevation gain, but super strong headwind. Hard day so far. Surprisingly my butt is so sore! Got to Orofino for lunch and got a ton of chips, burritos and an enchilada. kept following The Clearwater River and I jumped in at Five Mile Creek Beach. A little ways down we came into another bike packer going the other direction. She’s definitely a pro and gave us lots of tips. (She’s just going to a funeral a little ways away).

Highway 12 has a small shoulder and can be scary at times. We got to Kooskia, a tiny town with a population of only 607 people. There we stocked up on food for the big climb coming up tomorrow. Nowhere to restock until Missoula, Montana, 117 miles away. Jeremy said I could stay with him at his niece’s house before we split ways. We ran into a city councilman in Kooskia, and he told us we could camp out in the city park – we just have to wait until the square dance club rolls out. The square dancers invited us over and gave us tons of home baked desserts! We set up our tents right in the middle of the park. View Photos –>

  1. Hey Max! Had to catch up, last few days I’ve been wrapping up the school year and missed a few days, wow! I hope you got the tire rim issue fixed! Glad to see you have a riding buddy for a bit. Are you using padded riding pants? Love the pictures, so beautiful.

    • Luckily I stopped at a bike shop and they helped fix up the rims super quick! I’m using padded shorts, but the crazy hours on the bike are still making it difficult on the butt!

  2. Meema and I had the same thought. Did you do any square dancing? If you did, I hope someone got a video. I look forward to your daily entry – so nice to know where you are and what you’ve done and seen each day. You’re amazing!

    • No square dancing for me. This was a professional club and the calls were crazy complex! Dessert was so good though!

  3. I’m not sure how to do this. You amaze me with all you have seen and wonderful people you have met some seem like friends forever. I was afraid you would b sore here and there. But welcome relief has come along. Did u learn some square dance moves? If this works I’ll send more comments. I love you and B C. (Be careful)

    • It worked! Definitely sore, but it’s been such a great time so far! We learned some calls, but didn’t do any dancing ourselves. ❤️ love you Meems!

  4. Good luck on that climb! Just keep thinking about the long free ride down tomorrow. You should get some AWESOME starry night sky views tonight from up there. Can’t wait to see more pics.

    • It was a rough climb! And rainy at the top so unfortunately no stars, but what a good ride down!
