Day 19: Fourth of July!

Fireworks over Buena Vista, CO

It was great to have a real rest day on the Fourth of July! I’m still on my camping schedule, so I got up much earlier than everyone else. I ended up going with John (Sophie’s Dad) to watch him fly his paramotor (motorized paraglider). It was very cool! He cruised around on essentially nothing but a parachute, powered by a big fan! When we got back everyone was up, so we went out for an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast. Perfect for me!

We planned a chill day and hiked the Interlaken Trail, an easy path along the shore of Twin Lakes. The hike ends at the abandoned ghost town of Inter-Laken. In the late 1800’s this historic site was once a popular, luxury resort. You can still go inside some of the buildings, and we got to explore the cabin of John Dexter, the millionaire who owned the resort. The mountain views from the second floor windows were amazing!

We came back and chilled before going river surfing again. I was so close to standing this time! Sophie and John make it look so easy. We had a BBQ before climbing a little ways up Midland (a mountain path) to watch the fireworks over Buena Vista. It was a great 4th of July spent with good friends! VIEW PHOTOS –>

  1. I’m I love your notes snd asp the pixwondering. The paramotor thing is controlled from the ground or did John get in or under it snd flew around. Did you get a chance to do what ever he did? Are you climbing Mt Harvard today? Hope it’s great weather for that. Very hot here.
    I love you and B C

    • Love you Meems! John takes off with the paramotor running from the ground! And he lands the small way! Unfortunately conditions on Mt. Harvard weren’t ideal for summiting. Stay tuned to see what we did instead!
